A
new pocket of stibnite crystals was found in November in the Qinghe
shaft of Wuning Antimony Mine, Jiangxi Province of South China, the
characterized as bigger (up to 5-7 cm thick) and shorter (up to 30
cm long) crystals in comparison with specimens found in previous pockets
between the year 2000 and early this year. Most specimens are now
in Changsha. Prices in Changsha, Hunan, range from $400 to five figures
for a good to top specimens. |

On a trip to the town of
Chatian in Fenghuang county in Hunan Province and the Aiwuping mining
area, near Tongren City of Guizhou Province in early November, we
bought a lot of very good cinnabar specimens, which were dug out
this summer from a small private mine. Since then one more new pocket
has been found. This cinnabar is dominated by bright red hexagonal
crystals ranging from less than 1 cm up to 3 cm in diameter and
associated with white dolomite, quartz and calcite on siliceous
limestone. The bright colour, strong lustre and partial translucency
make them the best specimens in the history of these mines. The
colour of most cinnabar found previously were shades of red or dim
in colour.

Between October
and November, hairy red cuprites were discovered for the first time
in the Daye mining area, Hubei Province. The specimens are beautiful
but too fragile. They are not cheap at all. |

Having you seen huge yellow
crystals (up to 2 cm) of mimetite from China? We found a small pocket
of yellow to orange coloured mimetite crystals on matrix in early
June in a small Lead-zinc mine near Pingtouling (village), Liannan
County of Guangdong Province. From the same mine about 2,000 specimens
were discovered last November. Up to now, over 3,000 pieces were
found, but 90% of them are of low to medium quality. We have been
told that the mine collapsed due to flooding in July. If you are
looking for a world-class specimen of mimetite, please contact us.

Shining crystals
of azurite associated with malachite are found in the Guichi area
of Anhui Province. Many Chinese dealers offered them at the St. Marie
aux Mine Mineral Show in France in June.
